Omega Secure app privacy notice
How the Omega Secure app and its beta service handle your information. Every statement here describes what the beta software does today.
Who we are
Omega Secure publishes the Omega app and runs the beta service. Write to [email protected] with any privacy question, or to ask what we hold about you.
What we collect and why
- Account: your handle, display name and a one-way scrambled copy of your passphrase, to run your account.
- Devices: the public key of each phone you use Omega on, so others can seal messages to it. Private keys stay on your phone.
- Messages, files and calls: sealed on your phone. The service stores and passes on sealed data it can't read, and keeps who is in each conversation, when messages were sent and their size, so it can deliver them.
- Email (optional): if you confirm an email address, we keep it on your account to contact you about your account. Confirmation codes are stored only in scrambled form and expire after 15 minutes.
- Phone number (optional): if you confirm one, we keep only a keyed scrambled form, so people who already have your number can find you if you allow it, plus its last three digits for your settings page.
- Qualifications (optional): the qualification you claim and, for registered health practitioners, your registration number and name as registered. A document you send for checking is sealed so only our reviewers can open it, and is deleted once the claim is decided or withdrawn. A badge shows the qualification and the date it was checked, never the document.
- Network address: used briefly in memory to limit abuse, such as repeated sign-ups. It isn't written to logs, and the service keeps no record of the pages and chats you open.
- Reports: if someone reports an account, the report and its reason are kept for review.
Where it's kept
On Omega Secure's own servers in Australia. Connections to the beta service pass through a network provider based in the United States, which carries the encrypted traffic and sees network addresses but never message content. Confirmation emails are sent through an email delivery service based in the United States.
Who sees it
Other people see your handle, display name and badges only if you share a chat or a contact with them. Nobody at Omega Secure can read your sealed messages or calls. Reviewers see the qualification details and documents you send for checking. We don't sell your information or use it for advertising.
Keeping it, and deleting it
Delete your account at any time in Settings, under Account and badges. That removes your account, devices, contacts, profile, confirmations, qualification claims and documents, and wipes the sealed messages you sent. Reports made about an account are kept for up to 90 days for safety review.
Age
Omega Secure is for people aged 16 and over.
